REVIEW: Chicken Shop Tooting

Tooting is my home town and we're not often the location of a new restaurant that has a lot of 'cool' buzz around it. Chicken Shop seemed to pop up as if over night and when I went down there to check out what all the hype was about, I was ultimately surprised!

Chicken Shop is part of the Soho House group and has restaurants in Kentish Town & Whitechapel as well as Tooting. It had been sold to me by a friend as a sort of posh Nandos (which is my guilty pleasure) so I couldn't resist trying it out a couple of weeks ago after work.

The restaurant itself is not on the main road and is about a 5/10 minute walk from Tooting Broadway Underground Station. We went on a Tuesday afternoon. Although not heaving, the small restaurant was fairly busy but we were seated right away by a friendly waiter and admired the quirky decor.

From what I could see, there are no tables in the Chicken Shop, just bar style dining, sitting on stools. **Please excuse the bad quality photos, my camera decided to break recently so until I get it fixed (££!?) I'll be taking photos on my iPhone!**

The menu is compact - just chicken and a handful of side dishes. Chicken Shop serves free range chicken from Banham’s Farm in Norfolk which are steamed, marinated & then cooked on rotisserie spit which means the meat is super juicy but with a lovely charcoal flavoured coating

Our eyes were far bigger than our stomachs, we totally over ordered and went for a whole chicken with sides of slaw, fries & salad.

After devouring everything (and YES we finished it all!) we were definitely in need of the cute little, branded hand wipes they provide on every table. The highlight for me was the gorgeous red cabbage slaw which is fresh and not too creamy.

A delightful meal was had and I can't wait to go back again! The price for a meal for 2 with a couple of beers came in at under £40.

Let me know if you've been to Chicken Shop and tell me how your experience was!
